Its Official Now ! Mohanlal-Jackie Chan team’s Nair San to be made on 400 crores budget

Last year Mohanlal achieved what seemed to be improbable for a Malayalam movie- reaching the 100 crore mark. The gargantuan success of Pulimurugan which also crossed the 150 crore mark has given a new breathe a life to the industry proving that big budget movies are viable in Mollywood also. Mohanlal’s long awaited Randamoozham, planned to be made on a whopping budget of 600 crores, will reportedly go on floors next year. But before all that, in 2009 there were reports about global superstar Jackie Chan and Mohanlal teaming up for a movie titled Nair San. The project which could not materialize in 2009 is still on with the director Albert Antony (Alberrt Antoni) himself, making it official in a recent interview.
According to the director, Nair San was first planned to kick-start in 2009. Both Mohanlal and Jackie Chan were roped in to play the leads. A popular production house from India was all set to fund the movie but they later opted out citing budget as the reason. But Albert Antony did not lose hope and reworked the entire script. After completing the script, he registered it in the Writers Guild of America. This time, the director is waiting for some Hollywood production house to come on board as he feels that Indian companies will find it difficult for fund transactions as the movie will be shot in locations like China and Mongolia.
The plot of the movie is set in the pre-independence period. It will showcase the life story of a Malayali soldier, Ayyappan Nair. Jackie Chan is said to play the role of a martial arts trainer. Japan, China and Mongolia will be the main locations for the movie.
Albert Antony has confirmed that Mohanlal and Jackie Chan are the only actors considered for the roles. Even after the project was dropped in 2009, he is still in touch with Jackie Chan’s office. He had signed for an agreement back then with the production company but that will have to be renewed now. The director also said that Mohanlal regularly enquires about the project whenever the two meet.
Nair San will be made as a big budget project because they will have to recreate the locations of India and Japan during the independence period. The director has said that, Nair San will be made with the best available technical team. He had talked with Oscar award winning composer AR Rahman back in 2009, but in the current scenario they will finalize the crew members only after a production company comes on board.
Now that the director himself has officially confirmed the project, fans will be waiting with bated breath to see two superstars sharing screen space with each other.
